History- How has Britain changed since 1500?

Politics-Then
Most of the UK was ruled by the English King, but some places with different laws. Calais was ruled by the British with French laws! Wales was conquered by the English in the 13th century. Scotland was independent and ruled by James I, II, III, IV and V. James VI was the first king of England, Scotland and Wales.
In 1500, the king was the head of the House of Lords. (Parliament) Unlike now, the House of Commons did not have much power; the power lay with the bishops, barons and the Monarchs!
Politics-Now
Today we have a Prime Minster who, with help from The House of Commons and Cabinet, makes the laws. Although, they do, need to pass it through The House of Lords, who will finalise it. The Queen has no power in the UK today!
Language
People spoke English, in different dialects. Gaelic and Welsh are the secondly, with Welsh being spoken in Wales (except south-eastern and south-western parts(near Cardiff)) Gaelic was spoken in ¾ Scotland, the rest is English. A very small amount of people spoke Cornish and Norse. Cornish is spoken in Cornwall and Norse in the very north of Scotland. Some people in Cornwall today still speak it! While a small part of France was in the United Kingdom, Calais was ruled by the British king/queen. But it had French laws! Calais was lost during the rule of Mary I (Bloody Mary)!
Language-Now
Jobs
People learnt about ancient Greeks and Romans, their art, science architecture and government. The ‘Printing Press’ was invented and created many more jobs. This also made books and pieces of writing quicker to produce so it meant more people could learn to read and write, get a good education and also go to university!
Before this time, the majority of people worked in agriculture, probably running a small farm
Jobs-Now
There is a huge variety of jobs for people to do nowadays.

People-Then
There were only 5 hundred-million people on Earth in 1500, there’s 7 billion now! People’s aspects of religion and the world have changed! For example: In 1500, people thought the world was flat!
People-Now

People now know that the world is not flat. (It’s round or a sphere) Since the time of, Henry VIII the Church of England has been founded, which the Queen is still head of.
